Wow! First Miss Gurnee Blog of 2010. Hello everyone, I am Danielle Andrews, Miss Gurnee 2010. I am so honored to represent this wonderful community of Gurnee. I have lived in Gurnee all of my life and went through School District 56. Currently, I am a senior at Warren Township High School.
I have done two pageants before, but never had this much success at one. I decided this year that I was going to run for Miss Gurnee and see how things turned out. Little did I know, that the pageant was on my birthday! After signing up for the pageant I just kept thinking of how cool it would be to win Miss Gurnee on my 17th birthday! I started to get very excited and nervous when I knew that there was only one week left. Every day I would have my parents work on my interview skills and my speech. I am pretty sure that by the end of the week they were annoyed of me asking them to give me pop questions. I kept practicing to hopefully prepare myself for what was to come Friday night and Saturday. After the interview Friday, I was so excited to be done with it! It was such a relief! Thank goodness my mom and dad had worked on my interview with me, so it could run as smoothly as possible. Saturday came and I could not wait until the pageant started. My best friend Alison came with me as my dresser, so that she could be in the back helping me calm my nerves down. The pageant was awesome! I had so much fun and enjoyed every minute of it. I was a little nervous though because I thought I had messed up on my second pop question. I told myself that I was not going to win to get myself ready in case I didn’t. I didn’t want to be too upset if I lost so I was getting my mind ready to handle losing. I got up on stage and they announced Miss Congeniality and first runner up. My heart was pounding because I received neither of those. In my head the whole time I was saying, “Please be me, please be me!” All of us girls joined hands and waited for the winner of Miss Gurnee. Then they called out, “Contestant number three, Danielle Andrews!” I was so excited and shocked that I won! A lot of my family was there and I even heard some of them scream! I could not stop smiling the whole time I was up on stage! I had the two perfect queens beside me and I knew then, that my year as Miss Gurnee was going to be a fun one! This is my first week as Miss Gurnee and I am still up in that cloud. I cannot believe that I am Miss Gurnee, it is so hard to process in my mind that I really am! Next week will be our first outing together as queens at the Lake County Fair! I am excited to see what queen wins at the pageant there and also get a chance to know my little and junior miss more! This year is going to be a great one filled with many different activities that I hope to see some of you at!
